Looks That Deceive MedAir Series Book 1 edition by Braxton DeGarmo Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

LOOKS THAT DECEIVE by Braxton DeGarmo is both edgy and gritty crime fiction and a seat of the pants medical thriller. ‘Edgy’ because it pushes the edge of the envelope. It could be categorized as noir.

Lync Cully, a workaholic, dedicated detective has been loaned to the Major Case Squad. He’s investigating a series of gruesome and bizarre assaults on women in the legal profession, an explosion killing a lawyer, and the torture and murder of another man. The “wonder boy” of the detective squad, he knows these crimes are related.

Amy Gibbs, Cully’s former girlfriend, is a medivac nurse and part of the team transporting the torture victim by chopper to the emergency room. The horrifically injured man is able to mumble a few words about the killer to her and her partner before expiring. Cully wants to hold back this information from the public, but it gets out to the press, putting Amy squarely in the sights of this heinous killer.

The author uses plot construction often typical of thrillers. The reader is introduced to the highly intelligent and technologically advanced killer as “Lady Law,” a pseudonym the male predator uses online to lure females in the legal profession into his trap. He is adept in the use of aliases and ruse. The reader also becomes aware the killer has relationships with other characters in the story and they are none-the-wiser about his violent and depraved other life.

As it turns out in this deadly tale, looks can be deceiving. If you like unabashed, nail biting thrillers with an inspirational twist, this novel is for you.

Looks That Deceive MedAir Series Book 1 edition by Braxton DeGarmo Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Although extremely gory at times, the characters were interesting and the mystery intriguing. There were lots of twists and turns which are what make a good mystery. I wish the ending had been "an ending" and not a lead in to the next book.
This was a fantastic book. I was hesitant to start it because of its length as I am not an avid reader. I decided to give it a try as it had good reviews and it sounded interesting. It had a lot of twists but there were suggestions along the way to point you in the direction of the outcome. It ended differently than I was expecting but that is a good thing. I highly suggest reading it.
And would have been more satisfyinghad the book had a happy ending

Many of the reviewers were criticalof the inclusion of a few non biblical terms .However the bible instructs us that while we live in a world of sin wears to strive not to be of the world .If an author omitted any reference to worldly. Terms or condition ,three story would be more of a fairy tale and unbelievable .I think the author did a good job of limiting those words but included enough to make the story believable. The entire story contains a biblical message .

I gave this book 4 stars for a reason first part of book is only 3 stars but it gradually increased up to a full 5 star rating! Starts off really slow and tedious and I actually put it down a few times but there was still something about this book that kept me pulling me back so finally I just skimmed through the first half of the book and then towards the middle, I really started fully enjoying this book and by the end, I could not put this book down! This writer has incredibly technical knowledge of the subject and does a really good job in helping the reader to understand the medical aspect of is book. I definitely look forward to reading the series.
I love it when I can start a book and get right. Into it because the author is so good at what they do.
The characters are real, you can relate to them as the story unfolds, feel what they feel and love the good guys and hate the bad guys.
This story moves easily where it should and becomes a page turner where needed as well. The story grabs you and keeps you reading, nothing boring about any of it.
I enjoyed the characters and am glad to see there is another book to read that continues the story along.
Once reading began, it was difficult to stop until finished. Man's inhumanity to man is the mystery in place. But hope for his capture, plus the romance between the main characters keeps one reading. I look forward to the next story by this author.
St. Louis author Braxton DeGarmo, M.D., has developed a suspenseful thriller, in which a medical evacuation team helps pursue a serial killer, even as this perpetrator chases down one of its members and her ex-husband, Lynch Cully, who is a police detective in fashionable yet troubled suburban Ladue and a member of the Major Case Squad. Characters are well-developed, action moves fast and the resourceful, computer-savvy killer keeps his true identity well hidden from the pursuers, as well as the reader, until the final pages. While the ending feels somewhat unsatisfying, it shares this quality with life itself. Justice may be swift, but in the real world it is seldom fair.
